Never Too Young!

After not playing for many years, I decided to give it a go again, and was lucky to find a music store and teacher in Crestwood. Tom is talented and patient and I encourage anybody with a desire to start or resume to take advantage of the oppurtunity, children and adults alike. The many in-store concerts are an added plus to the community -thanks !

"A unique experience, right in your back yard"

by Sami True

Hewn from the Mountain has quickly become my all time favorite and most cherished store. I spent half of my life playing music, it was who I was as a child and young adult. I became fairly talented with all instruments put in my hands, but never had the chance to play the instrument of my dreams, the harp.

For 30 years I have dreamt of playing it. But, finding a harp isn't easy, and by chance if you do, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. Sure, I could have bought one off of the Internet years ago, but there's just something huge you miss out on if you havent actually touched or played an instrument you are going to own.

It was in one of my day dreaming states that I happened across the information for Hewn on the Internet. As soon as I got the chance, I was at his door ready to find out what it was all about.
And, let me tell you, if you like the wee bit eccentric, out of the ordinary, high quality items, this lil store will take your breath away. One entire wall is filled with unique stringed instruments. Some are traditional Appalachian, others are various violins and fiddles, and some come from far off lands like Turkey and India. There's something for everyone, no matter you musical capabilities.

If the unique selection isn't enough to wet your taste buds, how about the fact that many of the instruments are made or repaired right there by hand in this very little shop. Thomas, the owner, is a genuine luthier, tucked right here in Kentucky, creating some of the finest, sweetest sounding instruments in all the land.

Finding my dream harp right here under my nose has been one of the most exciting experiences I have had so far. It was very special to watch her "be born," and finally get the first chance to hear her voice. This instrument was more than a dream come true, it was an investment in my self and my Spirit, one which will continue to sweeten with each new day.
